There are certain destinations that call out to you. You might have read about the place and perhaps, seen it in photos and it remains with you, part of your travel bucket list. Up until a while ago, that place for me was the Florida Keys. I just had to hear the name and images of fresh seafood, tropical climates, water sports, and quirky lifestyles fuelled my imagination. So, when I received an invitation to visit this chain of mini islands, I happily accepted the experience. I was not disappointed.
Here are my highlights of that road trip. I've included activities and restaurants that I expect will please another traveling woman. You can mix and match my suggestions to create your own itinerary for this popular part of Florida, USA.
Tiny islands connected by bridges...
The Florida Keys are a string of islands that stretch about 120 miles off the southern tip of the USA between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Our four-day itinerary included brief stops to sample the delights of Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, and the funky, fun, city of Key West. To get there we drove the famous Overseas Highway, connecting the land portions by way of 42 bridges surrounded by sparkling turquoise waters.
