A modest hotel in Barcelona...
A woman friend and I spent 4 days in Barcelona in May 2003. I absolutely must return to that city! We stayed at the modest, clean, friendly and very conveniently-located Hotel Espana just off the Ramblas. sun From here it was easy to get around since a metro entrance was located right on the corner of the Ramblas. Choose your room carefully. Rooms not facing the street are best. This way you can avoid the typical traffic sounds or those of Barcelona's night life!

Barcelona is a wonderful city...
I spent 10 days in Barcelona this summer at a Creativity Workshop organized by a New York couple. What a wonderful city and the creativity made for a very exciting way to discover it. sun The food at many restaurants was as architectural as the buildings. So good and well presented. The Miro and Picasso Museums were outstanding. I generally tire of museums but I really enjoyed these. And best of all were all the buildings by Gaudi. I have never enjoyed architecture as much as I did in this city. The Gaudi museum is tastefully organized and beautifully presented and when you have completed the tour you get to walk the rooftop of the most organic and unusual building. I strongly recommend Barcelona. Buses and subway are very easy and inexpensive to use and the people in general are very friendly.

Woman-friendly in Barcelona...
I just returned from a week in Barcelona and had the wonderful experience of staying at the 4-star Hotel Colon. The location, directly across from the main Gothic Cathedral in the Barri Gotic, could not have been more perfect. We had easy walking access to the old city. Taxis were readily available when needed. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating to two single females. Their recommended restaurants were all very good and appropriate. The staff made reservations for us and provided maps with directions.

My friend and I stayed in a junior suite which faced the Cathedral. The price was $350 Euro per night. Though a bit on the high end, we enjoyed having two separate rooms in case one of us was sleepless or wanted to sleep in. Their other rooms are much lower in cost. Mur-Mur Apartments in Barcelona...
As a travel writer, let me share one of my finds with your women readers. Mur-Mur has 33 rooms, all with toilet & bath or shower. English spoken (by Arroyo, Martinez & Domingo), great location, wonderful hotel with no minimum stay. sun Owned by Jose Velasco, this reasonable hotel is close to being my first choice in Barcelona because all the rooms are modern comfortable apartments with lots of space, dining rooms, fully equipped kitchens (including large refrigerators), direct-dial phone, TV, music, maid service, air-conditioning, 27 rooms with balconies/terraces (most are huge), some with fabulous views. The higher the floor the better the view. The 8th floor is the highest floor with only 1 apt. (#81 & huge terrace with magnificent view) on the floor. The 7th floor only has 2 apts. (#71 & 72 & huge terraces also with magnificent views) on the floor. Only the rooms ending in the number 5 (15, 25, 35, 45, 55 & 65) have no balconies. Mur-Mur has a bar, elevator, 9 floors and parking. Great restaurant located upstairs next door. Located on the most popular street in Barcelona. Metro: Liceu.
