Without hesitation, I recommend Chicago as a perfect female-friendly
getaway. This is truly a world-class city without any big city
attitude. It's charming, charismatic, "culturally-endowed" and, oodles
of fun. Solo or with a pal, it would be perfect for a weekend wind-down.
However, with all that Chicago has to offer, Journeywoman is
recommending at least a five day visit. And, even then, you'll leave
wanting more!

Great sleeps...
Journeywoman spent several nights at the Embassy Suites Hotel ,
absolutely luxuriated in the wonderful space and loved their
amenities and service. Besides a spacious bedroom, every guest enjoys
the bonus of a separate living area and mini kitchenette. There's
television (two of them, in fact), a microwave, a coffeemaker (with
decaf if you want it) and a fridge for those evenings when a woman would
rather just not venture out. Management has really listened to what the
female traveller needs. Forgotten your toothbrush or your pantyhose?
They'll provide it in a minute. The bathroom is stocked with Ginseng
body lotion, Chamomile conditioning shampoo and hairdryer. There's an
iron and ironing board in every room, ditto for skirt hangers, and a
full length mirror for last minute make-up and clothing adjustments.
Used to a daily workout? Try their mini spa with pool, whirlpool and
mini fitness centre included. The all-you-care-to- eat breakfast is
complimentary and includes many health and calorie-conscious choices.
Great central location, too! For further information call: 1-800-EMBASSY
or take-a-peek at their website: http://www.embassy-suites.com
Journeywoman also did a "test-sleep" at The Gold Coast Guest House in the
upscale Gold Coast Neighbourhood. Had a lovely stay!
Bedrooms are comfortable, immaculate bathrooms are en-suite, and owner
Sally Baker is a perfectly delightful host. From the ginger tea and date
cookies she offers on arrival to her "right-on" restaurant referrals and
informed conversations, this woman knows her stuff. Continental
breakfast is served overlooking Sally's private garden. If you look
carefully you'll probably see her favorite red cardinal that comes
a-calling. Also worth a peek are the two carved cherubs holding up the
curtain in the living area. B&B bonus: some bathrooms have whirlpool
tubs and all bathrooms have a basket containing any grooming products
you may have neglected to pack. Want to take an exercise class? Sally
can arrange that, too! E-mail: sally@bbchicago.com or chat : 312 337
