She's Over 50 -- She Saves Money

Good as gold...
5 Buy a Golden Age Passport for $10 from the U.S. National Park Service if you're at least 62 and for the rest of your life you will be admitted free of charge to all federal parks, forests, refuges, monuments, and recreation areas. So will anybody else who enters the park in the same vehicle with you. For your Passport, write to the National Park Service, P.O. Box 37127, Washington, DC, 20013.
Skiing anyone?
6 The older you are, the less it costs to ski. There's hardly a ski area in North America that doesn't give mature skiers a good deal. Many cut the price of lift tickets in half at age 65 (sometimes earlier), and most stop charging altogether at 70. Besides, there are lots of special clubs, clinics, and senior ski weeks designed especially for skiers of a certain age.
Over the hill is good...
7 Join the Over the Hill Gang if you've turned 50. Once a club for skiers only but now into many activities from whitewater rafting to golfing and biking. Because the club has more than 5,500 members in 50 states and 14 countries, group rates apply. Contact Over the Hill Gang International, 1820 W. Colorado Av., Dept. G., Colorado Springs, CO, 80904, 1-719-389-0022.
Sun City, here she comes...
8 If you're at least 55, you can take advantage of the Vacation Getaways offered by eight Del Webb Sun Cities located in popular retirement areas all over the country. Designed to give you a sample of life in one of these adult communities and encourage you to move in, the rates currently start at $179 for three nights in your own villa with the use of all the facilities on the premises. Cities include Phoenix, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, Sacramento, Austin, and Ocala, Florida. For more information, please contact Sun Cities, 6001 N. 24th St., Phoenix, AZ, 85016, 1-800-DEL-WEBB.
Thrifty transport...
9 Think Thrifty when you rent a car. That is, of course, if you are over 55. This agency guarantees you a 10 percent discount off all rates--including special promotional rates--at all of its locations in the world. Other rental agencies offer senior discounts too, many starting at age 50; however, this is usually on regular rates only. For information on Thrifty Car Rental, call 1-800-367-2277.
Don't forget to ask...
10 If you're heading overseas, you can find bargains wherever you go, mainly on transportation. For example, in Denmark visitors over 65 pay only half price for tickets on the Danish State Railway (every day except Friday and Sunday when they get 20 percent off). Proof of your age is all you need. Finland's Finnair Airlines takes a whopping 70 percent off the normal fare on domestic flights if you're 65-plus. Bermuda holds its Golden Rendezvous Month every February when it treats visitors over 50 to special events and free activities. Remember to check!
