International Women's Day 2015 - A shout out to women around the world

2 preteens, canada

Gujarat is at the heart of the Indian textiles trade, and these village women weave hundreds of years of culture, passion and skill into their work. After purchasing a beautiful piece of Amir embroidery, we sat in the sun together and shared a timeless moment and another vibrant India memory was created.

There is nothing like the enthusiasm of pre-teen girls. I call this photo 'Two Young Canadian Ladies in Hats.'

Weaver, Northern Thailand

We spotted this weaver when we pulled over at the side of the road in Northern Thailand. She seemed shy as she spread out all her beautiful scarves and table linens. However, it was when she was at the loom, practicing her art for us that she relaxed and shared her happiness. Thailand - the land of smiles!

Himba Village, Northern Namibia

I met these lovely children walking through a Himba village in northern Namibia. The girl in the foreground floored me with her poise and beauty; her pal in the background was full of silly faces, and together they were a bundle of giggles.

Sognali Village, Cappadocia, Turkey

Soganli dolls are now sold all over Turkey but Soganli Village in Cappadocia, is where they are made. You can find the women waiting in the village square to sell their dolls to the tourists that come here to see the churches cut out the rocks that were used first by the Romans and later by the Byzantines.

Fatima, India

I met Fatima in India. Fatima works as a sweeper, cleaning people's houses and yards. She showed us the one room house she rents with her husband and son, with all their belongings neatly stored on shelves. Before, they had built a small house on a piece of land they were given, but they could not keep up the payments on the loan. Now the money lender lives there rent free until the loan can be repaid.

Hair in the middle east

Have you ever seen such wonderful hair? That's one of the things I love about the Middle East. What an interesting mixture of women!

Photographer: Evelyn Hannon Website:

We've listed the websites of all the generous people involved with this project. Please explore more of their work. You never know where that journey will take you.
