La Source in Grenada -- Escape From the World

Evelyn Hannon

Once I tasted the scent of romance at Spice Island Beach Resort I was ready to strike out on my own, relax, and make some new friends. At LaSource I succeeded on all three counts.

Escape from the world...

LaSource, the luxury all inclusive resort on Grenada's Pink Gin Beach is the type of destination that offers a true escape from the rest of the world. You can choose to be completely alone with lots of time to think or you can be chatting with new found friends in your morning yoga class. You're able to sit by the pool sipping lime squash and reading your favorite novel or you can slip into the pool and enjoy a brisk aqua fitness workout splashing along with the other guests. Either way you'll come away with complete mind and body rejuvenation which, according to the resort's management, is their primary goal.

Truly all inclusive...

At LaSource you never have to dig into your wallet for extras. All meals, all wine, all spa treatments and all activities are included. There are some extra costs for excursions outside the club, specific spa treatments or certain meals on the menu but you never have to choose those and you still can be perfectly satisfied.

I looked forward to my daily treatments at the Moroccan-inspired spa especially their signature back massage utilizing clove and cinnamon-infused oils. My walk along flowered paths leading to the yoga studio inspired relaxation even before the class began. If I wanted to take part in Tai Chi on the beach, it was available. So was scuba diving, pool vollyball, a major abs workout, evening jog and meditation. Daily classes were prominently listed on a flat screen monitor so that there were never any annoying announcements on the public address system calling for 'joiners.' I loved that.

Making your solo vacation effortless...

I was pleased to find that at LaSource solo travellers are equally as important as couples. First and foremost there are no single supplements added to your holiday rate. All guests enjoy spacious king rooms whether there are one or two occupying it.

And there are programs specifically for singles. Each evening the activity director hosts cocktail hours at one of their three bars. This was the perfect time to mix, mingle and meet new people. Everybody was receptive to a good chat and invitations for dinner were readily available. On my first night there I met a warm, witty British couple who added to the enjoyment of my stay.

Singles never need to eat alone. Management provides for an informally hosted singles table at two of the resort's four restaurants. Everybody is included in the conversation and it's a perfect place to meet a golf or tennis partner for the next day. Soon guests' faces become familiar and you find yourself saying 'hi' as you meet them at the spa or in the breakfast buffet line.
