International Women's Day 2015 - A shout out to women around the world

Petra, Jordan

Just outside the boundaries of the World Heritage Site in Petra, Jordan, where we'd wandered by mistake, an elder man instructed this girl to lead us back to the trail. She took pride in showing us some sights along the way and fending off a boy who tried to 'steal' our attention from her. She was having none of that!

Peruvian Andes

It was hard not to be drawn to this woman and her child in the Peruvian Andes. Clothed in multicoloured patterns, she exuded a quiet confidence and contentment.

Bo-Kaap COmmunity, Cape Town

I met Amina, a Muslim woman of Malay heritage, when taking a cooking class in a local home in Cape Town's Bo-Kaap community. The experience was the highlight of my trip to South Africa. Amina taught me about the local cuisine and how to make samoosas, sambal, roti, chicken curry and koeksister, all of which was savored at her dining room table with her and her family.

As it is above, so it is below

Bali, the legendary island of beauty and serenity, shares its Hindu faith with millions around the world, celebrating it in its uniquely elegant fashion. This young woman is enjoying a ritual bath at one of the country's most beautiful temple complexes; surrounded by gilded statues, exotic blooms and fish ponds where centuries old koi contentedly swim

Jaislamer, India

This girl is dressed up for the desert festival in Jaisalmer, India. She sat on a cart looking very shy or perhaps not happy at all with the situation she was in.

Nwabisa and Yolanda, Khayelitsha

While saying goodbye after another day of the mobile photography workshop I was teaching, Nwabisa (left) and Yolanda (right) put their daughters, Angie and Soso on their backs to go home. I love how children are carried in South Africa and couldn't resist capturing this moment in Khayelitsha.
